Prof Raj breathed his last and suddenly we discover that we are withour a leading leftist developmental economist. He was one of the few economists who would not belong to the class of economists Harry Truman so mockingly referred to when he asked for a one handed economist to guide him on fiscal policy.
The most important of his actions which has attracted my attention was his decision to return to Trivandrum to start CDS from scratch rather than bask in the glory of Delhi, or even still run away to greener pasteurs abroad. And what an institution he created right from the building which had the Laurie Baker mark on it to the work that is being carried out there.
RIP
